Historic background and points of interest

According to Greek mythology, Hephaestus (ancient god of fire) had offered Edipsos thermal spring as a gift to the goddess of wisdom Athena, so that her sponsored hero Hercules could find a place to relax, heal his wounds and regain his power every time he completed a feat against the evils of the ancient Greek world. Hephaestus created Edipsos by hitting on the ground with his hammer and thus letting hot water gush out onto the land of Edipsos.

But aside mythology, Edipsos spring area offers an uninterrupted history in therapeutic baths, relaxation and rejuvenation for more than 24 centuries. Many world famous people of modern times, among them Winston Churchill, have enjoyed thermal baths in Edipsos.
